What are Created Diamonds?
Created diamonds are genuine diamonds created in a lab setting instead of mined from the earth.
Created diamonds, also called man made diamonds, lab diamonds, laboratory grown diamonds, or cultured diamonds, are genuine diamonds. They have the same chemical, physical and optical qualities of natural gemstones, except that they are made by man, in a laboratory. The seed is to provide the molecular structure building block for the sheets of carbon placed over the seed to duplicate. This process mimics the natural heat and pressure that forms natural diamonds, only in a laboratory using 60,000 atmospheres of pressure at 2,300 Celsius until the material crystallizes.
Because these diamonds are created in a controlled environment, it is possible to create a near perfect diamond every time. Additionally, the cost for these cultured diamonds is approximately two-thirds less than a natural mined one, but the quality is usually superior.
